ALBERT & SIMON
In Spite of the bad press that Marbella has been getting recently, I must say that this beautiful city still offers one of the best climates in Europe, a great quality of life and some very interesting restaurants.
An example of the latest is Albert & Simon in San Pedro de Alcántara. Simón Benisty and his brother Albert have managed to obtain a venue where the impeccable service excels and the attention given to the customer is elegant but friendly. Simon is in charge of satisfying the customer while Albert does an excellent job in the kitchen.
They wine list is very ample and covers most wine producing regions from all over the world, especially Spain. As an aperitif we enjoyed a bottle of Nyetimber Chardonnay, that British sparkling wine which is being so much talked about due to its elegance, complexity and quality. In spite of many wanting to blame Nytimber´s success to climate change, the truth is that this firm has been coming up with great sparkling wines for many years. The reds we opened in order to accompany the dinner were Elías Mora from Bodegas Dos Victorias in Toro and a 2001Amadís from Rotllan Torra in Priorat. Both wines proved to be great partners for our food and we enjoyed them tremendously, especially the wine from Toro, which had great complexity and intensity in the nose and strong personality with good concentration in the mouth.
Albert & Simon is one of the restaurants which has recently impressed me the most thanks to Simon´s friendliness and his staff, and Albert´s fantastic cooking. His wine list, service of the wine and prices are more than fair, and I am expectantly waiting to see his new “bodega”, especially since Simon has been one of our students in the WSET. Anyone who visits Marbella must not leave without going to this restaurant. It will surprise you.

The dishes we ordered were greatly elaborated and excellently presented. As starters we ordered warm foie with quince and a reduction of Pedro Ximénez, crusty king prawns with orange vinaigrette spinach and a lobster salad with a mango vinaigrette. As main dishes we ordered sea bass loin with a dill vinaigrette and Bresse pigeon with crystallized virgin olive oil.
